Reviews

'Gulliver, as you may have just read, is from France, but his record label is based in Leicester. In a stunning coincidence, The Butterflies of Love are also from abroad (Connecticut to be precise) and their record label is also from Leicester. The message to be drawn from this? Go to Leicester, kids. It's happening. "Rob a Bank" is just about happening, being as it is one of the most listless, indolent records that you will hear in your dismal little lives. Jeffrey Greene murmurs like a narcoleptic Lou Barlow about the invigorating power of a hopelessly lost love, concluding with confusing candour, "You make me feel like I could rob a bank". Another fine record from another fine, self-effacing little independent.' NME

'They are the tallest, skinniest band in America. They are also the best new band in America. Imagine classic REM with a slight psychedelic drift, and you're pretty much there. When their debut single 'Rob a Bank' was issued in Britain, John Peel played it and said: "A round of applause for those good people who are releasing this over here."' Melody Maker

'Achingly beautiful track. Gruff vocals, on the edge of breakdown, intone over reverb picked guitar while suicidal backing singers "Yeah yeah" at the appropriate moments. It's a litany of things he'd do for her and it sounds like Luna cracking up'. Robots and Electronic Brains Fanzine

'At 45rpm, they sound like manic eight-year-olds, so maybe it plays at 33. Ah, that's it: too loose to be slackers, this Connecticut crew have a strangely mesmeric take on the VU third album. "You make me feel like I could rob a bank", they croon, but they're held back by the grand ennui.' Record Collector
